Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi has donated financial aid to the starving Muslims of Somalia and urged the Islamic community to aid famine victims in Africa. At the ceremony held in the sanctuary of Fatima Masuma (‘a) he said: famine and drought are taking the lives of many Muslims in Somalia, in this situation, it is obligatory for all Muslims to provide help and assistance for them immediately, even before the other international organizations come to their help. His highness added: it contradicts the Islamic glory and brotherhood if the Muslims stand back in this field waiting for the others to help their brothers in faith. Although there are many deprived people in all Muslim countries but the satiation in Somalia is more painful and serious that is not comparable to our fellow countrymen. Though, one of the preferred acts of the month of Ramadan, the month of mercy and brotherhood, is to try to help our brothers and sisters in faith.
His eminence has also given permission to his followers to spend one third of Imam’s share (one sixth of their Khums) on helping the victims of famine in Somalia. May Allah accept it from them and protect them from any calamity.
