The second congress on “Extremism and Takfiri Movements in Today’s world” will focus on the responsibilities of the Muslim scholars regarding the problem of extremism. Many Muslim scholars and intellectuals from Iran and various Muslim countries, along with the ambassadors of different Muslim countries, will participate in this congress, which will be held under the supervision of Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi in the holy city of Qom.

The Wahhabis and Takfiris seek only to spread divisiveness among Muslims and so I hope that you will stop them before they can carry out their evil plans and take you away from the path of moderation.
Referring to the danger posed by the Takfir groups to the entire Muslim world, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stated that the complete eradication of this danger is possible only through intellectual and scientific confrontation with the Takfir ideology and that this requires a more active role to be played by mass media in this regard.
Takfirism originates from a distorted and deviated school of thought. It is the responsibility of the Muslim scholars to eradicate the roots of this kind of ideology.
The Shaikh of al-Azhar, who is usually a moderate person and who has an inclination towards the unity of Muslims, has recently given a fierce speech in condemnation of Shia Muslims. He has also stated that, this speech had been in reaction to some TV channels which vilify the sanctities of other Muslim schools.

I urge international organizations as well as religious leaders all around the globe to denounce the recent terrorist attacks on Iraq and take a serious measure for stopping their supporters from backing them financially and logistically otherwise this fire will burn up the whole region and even will reach to the western countries.
