Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi in a meeting with German Ambassador in Iran, saying that totally, we have good memories from Germans and we want to live peacefully with them, answered his questions.
Regarding the relationship between religion and government, he said: We have two ways to understand this relationship. The first way is to look at history; we will see that religious scholars had effective roles in saving Islamic countries over the history. On the other hand, we look at our own experience in the Islamic revolution; Iran was a weak country before the revolution, the decisions were made by foreign embassies, including the United States and Britain, and people could not decide. But after the revolution and acquiring religious thoughts, we turned to a strong and powerful country in the region and no one decides for us and country anymore.
His eminence added: After the Islamic Revolution, Iran has achieved the true independence and if others do not prevent us, we will have a government more powerful than now.
His eminence in response to another question of the German Ambassador regarding the interest for talks with Iran, answered: We also agree with this issue and we believe that such exchanges will solve lots of problems.
He continued: Frequently, sitting around and talking, are the origins of suspicion and pessimism, but sitting and talking together will end all these suspicions; especially about our country on which the Western media have portrayed it as a dark face, in political aspects. Thus, when groups come together and meet closely, they will understand it is a false political face portrayed from Iran, Shiite and Islam.
His eminence stressed: Foreign journalists are occasionally making contact with us and we ask them if the Iran they have seen in the media is equal to the Iran they have met closely? They answered: no, it is quite different.
His eminence reiterated: Political expediency demands the same issue. If all people of the world should live peacefully together, so they should really know each other, not a false face.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi addressing the German ambassador: You can have an important role in the development of relations between Iran and Germany. You can transfer what you see such as security, safety and democracy in election and do your part in correcting the West mentality towards Iran.
