At the beginning of his advanced Fiqh course held in the Aʿzam mosque in Qum, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi thanked the Iranian people for their awareness and vigilance in upholding the mourning ceremonies held for Imam al-Hussayn (ʿa) in the month of Muharram. Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stated in this regard: “The organization of this year’s mourning ceremonies was very good”.
He then added: “Based on the official statistics, around 6 million pilgrims traveled to Karbala to take part in this year’s mourning ceremonies held for Imam al-Hussayn(ʿa). Unfortunately, in some countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan, the atrocious Takfiris attacked some of the mourning ceremonies and killed and wounded a lot of innocent people”.
Referring to a tradition which has called the enemies of Islam “stupid”, his eminence noted: “They have witnessed with their own eyes that no matter how much pressure they exert to pass the event of ʻĀshūrā in to oblivion, people become more interested and attracted to the mourning ceremonies held for Imam al-Ḥussayn (ʿa). This year’s mourning ceremonies, in which more than 6 million people took part, were almost unprecedented.”
He then continued: “In just a few weeks they must also witness the huge mourning processions of Arbaʿīn which will be held everywhere around the globe. These mourning processions are held with greater majesty and grandeur every year. The special ceremonies held in commemoration of Imam al-Hussayn’s (ʿa) infant son who was martyred in Karbala are also held in around 42 countries. Such mourning processions are even held in European capitals such as London.”
Stating that the enemies of Islam and the Shia school madly attack the Shias and kill and wound innocent people, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi noted: “No matter how much they kill and injure us, the effects of their atrocities will backfire on themselves. I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who worked hard to organize this year’s mourning ceremonies majestically and also to those who took part in these ceremonies”.
His eminence then condemned the recent brutal assault of the Saudis against Yemeni people and stated: “The Saudis created a bloodbath by bombing a mourning ceremony in Yemen, killing and injuring 700 innocent people. This unprecedented act of barbarism was committed right before the eyes of the world and the international human rights organizations. However, most of these international organizations turned a blind eye to this horrendous crime, and some only condemned it in words and took no practical measure to prevent similar crimes against humanity in the future”.
He further noted: “such kinds of barbaric acts stem from some sort of madness which, in turn, originates from frustration and despair. The house of Saud is at the end of its tether and has seen its dark future. This is a similar feeling of despair which, when afflicts a person, he will fall in to a kind of madness that can make him commit unspeakable crimes and acts of violence”.
His eminence then added: “The Yemeni people, on the other hand, are more determined to establish their own democratic government and are busy preparing themselves to combat the Saudis even further. Even if, assuming the impossible, the Saudis are able to conquer Yemen and establish their own puppet government there, will they be able to easily rule over a country where they have committed so many crimes and atrocities? No one in their sound mind considers any chance for the Saudis to be accepted and trusted by the Yemeni people after their massacre of the Yemeni people for nearly two years. So why is it that they continue committing such unspeakable crimes in this impoverished country?”
Stating that such terrible crimes are a sign of nothing but madness which originates from despair, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi further asserted: “I hope that the Syrian, Yemeni, Iraqi, and Bahraini people have a bright future after the elimination of Takfiri terrorists in their countries. I also hope that the supporter of terrorists, including the US and England, will be disgraced once the world sees them for what they truly are and what they have done. We ask Allah (swt) to eliminate these wicked terrorist groups in the entire world”.
