Speaking during his advanced Fiqh course held in the A’zam mosque in Qom, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stated: “The great Prophet (s) once said: “if you like your heart to soften, to be saved from hardheartedness, and to be granted your needs, be kind to orphans and feed them with the same food that you yourselves eat””.
He further noted: “Cruelty, hardheartedness, and savagery are among the most evil character qualities that might afflict human beings. These are the same evil qualities which have plagued people like the Daesh terrorists and other hardhearted Wahhabis. The holy Quran has described some people amongst the Israelites, who were afflicted with the same evils, as ones whose hearts had hardened to the point that they were harder than rocks, because even rocks can be changed to some extent”.
His eminence, then, referred to various situations in which a person with a compassionate heart would be touched and stated: “such a person would be deeply touched to see a sick fellow human being, or one who is disabled, or a bankrupted individual, and he would cry for their sufferings and offer to help them”.
He also noted: “The first and basic kind of nature has been given to animals; this nature brings them to hunt and kill other animals, and so brutality is all that they know. However, mankind has been created based on a second kind of nature, which is based on human emotions and compassion when it comes to emotional issues”.
Referring to the importance of attending to orphans, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi further stated: “orphans need psychological and emotional support as they need financial support. Therefore, one must attend to their emotional needs along with their financial and material needs. However, attending to the orphans and supporting them has a two-fold effect: by attending to orphans, one will satisfy their needs, but at the same time, one’s own heart is softened and is cleansed from severity and harshness. This way, one will cultivate noble human character qualities and attributes in one’s heart and, as the Messenger of Allah (s) has stated, he will have his needs granted by Allah (swt)”.
He also stated: “Many children were orphaned as a result of the war imposed on Iran by Iraq, and people must carefully attend to them and support them both emotionally and financially. Repeating good deeds is very effective in the spiritual development of one’s soul and it will consolidate the noble character qualities those who do them”.
Referring to the assertion of some Wahhabi muftis who had called Iranians “non-Muslims”, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said: “In response to these outrageous assertions, some have said that the Islam brought by “Muhammad Ibn Abdullah (s)” is different from the Islam preached by “Muhammad ibn Abdul-wahhāb”. The Islam that was brought by the Prophet of Islam (s) is full of compassion and kindness but the version of Islam that Muhammad Ibn Abdul-wahhāb preaches is that of bloodshed, massacre, destruction, and annihilation”.
He further noted: “According to the Islam brought by the Prophet of Islam (s), anyone who states the statement of faith (i.e. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah) enters the fold of Islam, and such people are all Muslim brothers. However, based on the distorted version of Islam preached by Muhammad Ibn Abdul-wahhāb, all the people except the Wahhabis are disbelievers!”
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, then, stated: “Based on the Islam taught by the Messenger of Allah (s), if non-Muslims do not invade Muslim territories, we must treat them kindly and justly. The Islam taught by Muhammad Ibn Abdul-wahhāb, however, teaches that the non-Muslim girls and boys can be abducted and sold as slaves. We hereby announce that we are followers of the genuine Islam brought and taught by the Prophet of Islam (s), not the fabricated version of Islam taught by Muhammad Ibn Abdul-wahhāb!”
He also noted: “The Wahhabi version of Islam has nothing to do with Islam, whatsoever. The Sunni scholars in Chechnya have explicitly denounced Wahhabism and stated that it is not a Sunni school. We also repudiate Wahhabism and state that it has nothing to do with Shia school either therefore there is a consensus that these Wahhabis are not considered as Muslims.
Thank God, there are signs indicating the imminent downfall of this fabricated school. The world is now awakened to the fact that the Wahhabis are dangerous people”.
