The Statement of Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi Concerning the Tragic Incidents in Kashmir: All Muslims Must Join Hands and Save Kashmir
Recently India has decided to dominate the entire region of Kashmir and bring this rather sensitive and appealing region under its control. We wish the issue of Kashmir had been resolved through diplomacy but India decided to resolve it through military force. This is why they have sent a huge army to Kashmir, slaughtering a large number of innocent people there and imprisoning a lot more.
Kashmir is a rather lush and green area with a lot of tourist attractions, located between India and Pakistan, and this is why both India and Pakistan are interested in dominating it. For many years, Kashmir was divided in to two provinces, one of which was governed by Pakistan and the other by India; but one thing which should not be forgotten is that the majority of the people of Kashmir are Muslims.
It appears that India has recently decided to dominate the entire region of Kashmir and bring this rather sensitive and appealing region in its entirety under its control. We wish the issue of Kashmir had been resolved through diplomacy but India decided to resolve it through illegitimate military force. They have therefore sent a huge army to Kashmir, slaughtering a large number of innocent people there and imprisoning a lot more.
We reiterate that the issue of Kashmir has no military solution and it needs to be resolved through diplomatic solutions. We call all the Muslims of the world not to forget their Muslim brothers in a region with a majority of Muslim population; we urge all the Muslims to quickly take actions to save their fellow Muslims from the Indian oppression, because anyone who is indifferent about this issue will be held accountable by Almighty Allah.
Of course, we no longer have any hope in the international organizations responsible for protecting peace in the world because, apparently, they benefit in the Hindus and Muslims getting killed at each other’s hands. Yet, we ask the Muslims all over the world to step up and attempt to solve the issue of Kashmir, otherwise, they will have no justification before Allah for remaining indifferent.
