In the beginning of his Fiqh course in A’zam mosque in Qom, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi addressed a number of important issues regarding economic issues and the current problems of the country, while discussing a tradition by Imam Ali (a.s.).
Stating that surviving the economic ups and downs depends on the avoidance of luxury as well as extravagance and wasteful expenditure, he said: “we have some problems today and under the current conditions which were created by the enemies who seek to weaken us by different means, and we should try to endure these conditions by avoiding luxury, and by showing continence in consumption”.
Referring to assertions of the opponents and the enemies of the Islamic republic, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi called such assertions worrying and stated: “they say that after inspecting nuclear-related sites they intend to inspect any other site that they want to and that they have to be granted access to anywhere that they ask!”
His eminence further said: “it is easy to provide for a simple life in which there is no sign of luxury. However, providing for a luxurious and lavish life is not so easy”.
Emphasizing the necessity of adhering to the principles of resistive economy to overcome the problems, he continued: “the reason why some people fall in to corruptions such as bribery, smuggling, and illegal usurpation of lands in mountains and forests, is because they are not willing to live with continence”.
In, yet, another part of his speech, his eminence had a warning for the Wahhabi Muftis and said: “a while ago, and due to the infamy that ISIL had brought upon them, they organized an anti-Takfiri congress in Hejaz, in which they announced Takfir and excommunication to be prohibited, hence, to exempt themselves from the atrocities committed by the followers of groups like ISIL and Al Nusrah front”.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stated: “at first we thought they were coming back to their senses, yet, before long, the story of Yemen came up and we realized that these people began overtaking one another in excommunicating the people of Yemen, and the grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia issued a fatwa in which he excommunicated the people of Yemen!”
His eminence, then, addressed the Wahhabi Muftis and said: “Yesterday you said something different and you were against Takfirism; so what is it that you say today? What we have always said is that the era of the Takfiri Wahhabism is over”
Considering the mindless and irrational Takfiri groups such as the ISIL as the sinister offshoots of Wahabism, his eminence continued: “this is beyond all doubt; you must now part ways with them [the Takfiris], j o i n the rest of the Muslims, and stop contradicting yourselves. We must now stop excommunicating each other, and be united in the face of the enemies”.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi continued: “how is it that, one day, you organize an anti-Takfir congress and on the next day you excommunicated the Muslims of Yemen yourselves?! I advise you to protect your honor by parting ways with Takfiris and know that the more you persist doing what you are doing now, the more disgraced you will be. So now act wisely and do the right thing so that Muslims will be optimistic about one another”.
Praying for the elimination of the problems of the Muslim community, his eminence stated: “we hope that they j o i n the Muslim community and stop destroying Islamic monuments and historical sites, as the era of ignorance and prejudice is over now”.
Referring to the news and reports about the destruction of various Islamic monuments and sites by the ISIL, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi added: “how many Islamic monuments and sites have been destroyed by the ISIL? Also, based on the footage of their recent atrocity that has been broadcast, they have savagely murdered a number of people with cinder blocks. These atrocities are unprecedented in the history”.
In, yet, another part of his speech he warned against the sinister conspiracy of dividing Iraq and stated: “the result of such division would be the formation of three weak Shiite, Sunnite, and Kurdish governments instead of a single, unified and powerful government. Thus, we must be wise and not to get caught in the sinister plots of the enemies”.
