In his Fiqh course, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi pointed out to the fact that ISIS has turned in to the main issue of these days and said, “They are a group of criminals, terrorists, and murderers who do not follow any of the Islamic rules.”
Stating that such a group is the result of evil Wahhabi extremism, he said, “Such beliefs never emerge in the Shia or Sunni beliefs. It is the result of the evil beliefs and ideologies of the Wahhabi extremists.”
His eminence added, “Nevertheless, moderate Wahhabis have disassociated themselves from the ISIS and some Wahhabi Mufti’s have excommunicated them from Islam.”
He asserted, “ISIS was financially supported by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, while Israel, America and the West provided it with weapons and, unfortunately, Turkey gave them conveniences.”
Exclaiming that this is a fact so clear that it is undeniable, he said, “They have woken up today and realized that they have nurtured a snake and are now thinking about saving themselves, but they have chosen the wrong path.”
Explaining that terrorism cannot be eradicated by airstrikes, which also kill innocent people at the same time, said, “They want to eradicate ISIS and terrorism with airstrikes. This is not the solution; the solution is the path which Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Hezbollah have taken.”
He exclaimed, “If they hadn't taken this path Iraq would have been overtaken by ISIS by now. Their financial sources should be cut now, but unfortunately some Arabic countries fund them and some other countries supply them with arms.”
His eminence said, “If these are cut, they shall be destroyed. In addition, their ideological roots should be fought as well.”
He said that Muslim scholars should do something now and expose their beliefs, and emphasized, “We should shout out loud that the things they do have nothing to do with Islam and the Qur’an.”
Pointing out to the Congress on the Dangers of Takfiri Movements, which will be held next month in Qom, he said, “This congress aims to enlighten and gather Muslim scholars about the dangers of the Takfiri movement, with the presence of Muslim thinkers.”
Stating that the Westerners cannot do anything, he pointed out to the English Prime Minister’s recent speech in the Un General Assembly, David Cameron, and said, “He meets the president of our country but offends him in the Un General Assembly less than two hours later. It is said that the English are polite and smart, but this proved that England’s prime minister is different; he is neither smart nor polite.”
He said, “They have a black history in our country, instead of correcting their mistakes, they make it even worse. Is this smartness? If this is how you want to fight ISIS, be sure you shall not succeed.”
His eminence added, “Let the people who are qualified fight the ISIS, it is not your job, all you need to do is to not help them.”
